Understanding PPI

The banks lost in court after years of systemically mis-selling PPI. Now they've paid out almost £9 billion with the total PPI claim bill expected to reach between £15 and £45 billion. Payment protection insurance (PPI) is often sold to consumers when they’re taking out a credit card, store card, loan or mortgage. The insurance – sometimes referred to as loan protection insurance too – is designed to pay your debts if you're unable to work due to illness or injury, or if you’ve been made redundant. According to research by the Financial Services Authority and the Office of Fair Trading, tens of thousands of PPI policies have been mis-sold in the UK, leading to consumers spending money on insurance they either didn’t need or could never claim on. Now the compensation average is £2,750**.

How can you help me claim back PPI?

So how do you go about making a PPI claim? You can write a letter of complaint to the lender or finance provider who mis-sold you the PPI. Alternatively, we specialise in providing you with access to experts in financial claim management from a range of different providers. We can introduce you to an expert advisor who can help you find out if you can claim back PPI and also help you make a claim.

* All firms we introduce you to must provide you with a “no win no fee” service and must be regulated by the Ministry of Justice in respect of regulated claims management activities. While these firms can provide you with their expert service on a "No Win No Fee" basis, a Fee may be payable if you decide to cancel a contract with them after the 14 day cooling off period.

Loan

loanIf you've taken out a loan which included mis-sold PPI, you can claim a PPI refund. The FSA estimates that 90% could have been sold incorrectly so fill out our PPI claim form so we can help.

  • You may have been made to think this was compulsory rather than optional on either a secured or unsecured loan.
  • You might not have even known you had signed up for this - it's also referred to as loan protection and may be stand alone or part of the package.
  • Depending on your job, health, age or other circumstances you may not have been covered by the PPI you were sold.
  • The costs and terms of the policy may not have been explained to you, for example if the PPI period did not cover the full term of the loan.

Mortgage

mortgageMany mortgages have been sold with PPI incorrectly included. The extra money paid has made significant extra profit for the banks. If your mortgage was one of them, then you can reclaim PPI today.

  • You might have been led to believe that this product was compulsory.
  • You may have believed it was necessary to continue with your mortgage application, or not even be aware that you had signed up for PPI.
  • You may not have been made aware that there were exclusions on your policy depending on your employment status or any pre existing medical conditions.
  • The costs and terms of the policy and how it affects your mortgage payments may not have been explained to you.

loanPPI is often sold with credit cards. A 2011 Which? Magazine survey found 13% of credit card holders were told PPI was a condition for credit approval. Sound familiar? Fill out the quick and easy form.

  • You may have been made to think this was a required condition for credit approval.
  • You might not have even known you had signed up for this when you got your credit card.

  • The costs, terms and restrictions of the policy may not have been explained to you.
